A Temple for Nairobi!!!!!

Wow!!!  We were sitting here at 7 p.m. watching the Sunday morning session of General Conference.  President Monson announced 5 new temples.  When they announced Nairobi, Kenya, we started screaming.  We've been on the phone for the past hour and a half.  So excited!!  What a blessing for the people of Kenya and Tanzania!!!

Elder Thomas is with us for a couple of days.  Look at his excitement!!!  A temple was also announced for Saratoga Springs Utah, which is close to where he lives in Utah.

Elder Thomas and Elder Torrie on the phone.  Elder Torrie called President Msane very first.  He told the President that it is NOT an April Fool's joke!!  And don't worry.  Elder Thomas was not breaking mission rules.  He only called other missionaries, not his family.  (Missionaries are only allowed to call home on Mother's Day and on Christmas Day.  Calling home can make them more homesick and detract from their focus on missionary work, hence the rule).

Here is the proof.  It's real.  President Monson announced it!

Elder & Sister Torrie excited about the temple announcement.

We turned Conference back on but we couldn't concentrate so . . . back on the phone again.

  1. I about fell off my chair, and thought about a post I read earlier where you made a comment about Nairobi not having a temple yet because the church is still in the growing stages there, and now you'll have to go back and alter that post. :) :) :) :)

  2. So excited and yes, so shocked. Didn't think it would happen in my life time!! We're so happy for the people here and in surrounding countries. We're so excited we couldn't even finish watching the conference. We've been on the phone for over 2 hours!

  3. Calling around Kenya to spread the news since so many don't have internet to watch conference?

  5. Yes. Plus they don't have the tradition of listening to Conference like we do. And if they do have internet, it's usually not very stable.

  7. It occurred to me to Google LeRon Torrie my missionary companion in. Moriguchi Japan. Surprise! On a mission in Kenya. What wonderful news for the Saints of Kenya. Friends of ours served in Tanzania a few years ago and they have expressed their great delight.

  9. When we heard President Monson's announcement, we could hear Elder Torrie's yells right in our living room! How wonderful to be with those faithful saints when they heard the good news. Bet you go back for the temple dedication in a few years, eh!
